Between February 10 and 14, female scientists from the Centre for Advanced Studies of Blanes (CEAB-CSIC) will talk about their daily work with students from schools and high schools in the La Selva and Maresme regions. The talks, scheduled to mark February 11, provide an opportunity to create female role models in the fields of science and technology.
February 11 – the International Day of Women and Girls in Science – is an opportunity to bring the gender gap in science and technology to the forefront of social discussion and call for solutions. The activities organized around this date help to highlight the role of women in science, break stereotypes, and establish female role models in various fields of scientific research.
The Centre for Advanced Studies of Blanes (CEAB-CSIC) has scheduled around twenty talks in fifteen schools and high schools in the La Selva and Maresme regions. Specifically, these will take place in the municipalities of Blanes, Palafolls, Malgrat de Mar, Lloret, Pineda de Mar, Tordera, and Canet de Mar. The talks will be led by researchers from different CEAB-CSIC research groups, and over 800 students are expected to participate.
Aware of the power of role models, female scientists visit classrooms to explain their work, the challenges they have faced, how they have achieved their goals, the successes they have attained, and how they first became interested in their field. These talks help break down stereotypes and provide female role models for girls and young women, showing them that science is indeed for them.
