Researchers from the CEAB-CSIC, in the area of Limnology, will share the scientific knowledge obtained with the research projects they develop in the area.
From September 4 to 6, the III Alt Pirineu Natural Park Research Conference will be held. This event brings together scientists, managers and local entities with the triple objective of:
- Disseminate the scientific knowledge obtained with the research carried out in the area
- Provide indications on how this knowledge can be applied in the management of natural spaces
- Promote collaboration between different sectors to conserve the ecosystems of the Pyrenees
The Conference will take place at the MónNatura facilities, in Planes de Son (Pallars Sobirà). They will have more than 60 speakers, including a large representation from the CEAB-CSIC, specifically, from the integrative inland water ecology group.
Researchers from the Center will make six presentations related to the research we carry out in the area, such as, for example, results of the LIFE RESQUE ALPYR (and the projects that preceded it), evidence obtained with the studies carried out in the Limnological Observatory or those related to the study over the years of the aquatic flora of high mountain lakes.
The six presentations will be given on September 4, starting at 3 p.m. in the MónNatura multipurpose room. It will be within the session dedicated to lakes, moderated by the CEAB-CSIC researcher Núria Catalán. The first will be that of Danilo Buñay, on primary production as the main determinant of transparency in lakes. Núria Catalán herself will follow with a presentation in which she will explain how the carbon cycle of the Pyrenean lakes is made known to students in the area and how they are involved in conservation. Next, Marc Ventura, coordinator of LIFE RESQUE ALPYR, will talk about the crustaceans on the coast of the ponds and the relationship that exists between them and the presence of fish. Afterwards, Víctor Osorio will give a presentation related to the recovery of macroinvertebrates after the eradication of invasive fish. Esperança Gacia will share the knowledge obtained about the variations in the macrophyte composition of a Pyrenean pond after the introduction of the verón. Finally, Enric Baqué will talk about the changes in macrophyte communities over three decades with special reference to the ponds of the Alt Pirineu Natural Park.
The program of the Conference includes a total of 76 participations (66, presentations. 10, in poster format) divided into 10 thematic sessions: landscape evolution, archaeology, geology, cultural legacy, ponds, monitoring networks/nivology, socio-ecological systems, animal ecology and biodiversity, forest ecology and biodiversity, and rivers and peatlands. There will also be a poster session on various topics.
